About product Capillary alcohol meter

The 0-25% capillary alcohol meter allows you to measure the alcohol concentration in dry wines. The device gives the most accurate measurements when working with a white drink, the strength of which varies from 8 to 13%. If the measurement is carried out with strong or sweet wine, the error will be 1–4%, depending on the amount of sugar. To obtain more accurate results, it is recommended to dilute the drink with water in equal proportions, and after measuring, multiply the result by 2.

A capillary alcohol meter has the form of a glass bulb, one end of which is narrow and ends with a small opening, and the other has the form of a funnel into which the product must be poured. Measuring divisions are drawn along the entire narrow end, which serve to determine the strength of the wine.

Instructions for using a capillary vinometer:

1. Fill the funnel with measuring solution, about half.

2. Wait until the liquid seeps down the capillary and begins to drip from the opposite hole.

3. After waiting for a few drops to appear, turn the device over and place it on a flat and smooth surface with the funnel down.

4. At the same time, a small pool of wine residues will form under the device, but this is normal and there is nothing to worry about.

5. Indications on the device opposite to which the lower meniscus of the liquid will stop must be taken into account when determining the volume of alcohol.

A capillary device is not the only device for determining the strength of wine. Such a device as a hydrometer determines the amount of alcohol based on the density of the drink. There is also a refractometric method that allows you to determine the amount of sugar in the drink, and after that to calculate the strength of the wine. All this makes it possible to control the manufacturing process at all its stages and to make changes if desired or necessary. Thus, it can be concluded that all these devices are necessary for both professional winemakers and hobbyists.
